Corporate social responsibility and the environment
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports are an important document to demonstrate your company's progress in environmental and social responsibility. A lot of the terminology used in these reports is taken from official sources such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
CSR reports are quite comprehensive documents, so they are created using InDesign. Rather than working in InDesign, translators usually use a tool that helps them to work faster and improve the quality of their translation. We start by exporting the text without the images from InDesign to a format called IDML that can be imported into the translation tool. We also prefer to divide the file into multiple files, one for each chapter or section, to facilitate the editing process. Once the translation is complete, the text is imported back into InDesign where we then check that all the text fits the layout, and the headings flow correctly.
A CSR report is a substantial document that involves a lot of work, including translating, editing and formatting. That's why we like to have as much time as possible to ensure we can do a good job. It’s helpful if you can pre-book this work well in advance so that we can book a translator specialising in your industry. We generally need around two to four weeks to translate a report.
When we translate your CSR report, we save the translation to a database that we can use the next time your report needs to be translated. Our translation tool then automatically retrieves previously translated sentences so that we don't have to translate the same text twice. We can therefore offer substantial discounts on recurring texts.
Translation is about so much more than simply transferring words and sentences from one language to another since people have different ways of expressing the same thing in different languages. When using machine translation, every word is translated indiscriminately, so the result is often very unnatural, and the wrong terms and expressions may be used. For this reason, we see machine translation as an effective tool rather than a self-contained method.
