Scandinavian languages, part of the North Germanic language family, include Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish. These languages are mutually intelligible to varying degrees and share a common linguistic heritage. Nordic languages encompass these Scandinavian languages as well as Finnish, Icelandic, and Faroese. While Finnish belongs to the Finno-Ugric family and is distinct from the others, Icelandic and Faroese are closely related to Old Norse.
