Subtitling requires great skill on the part of the translator. It’s all about conveying the essence of the soundtrack in a short space of time and with a minimum of words per caption. Yet the result still has to be comprehensible and easy to read – because viewers don’t get a second chance.
Do you want to reach out to your customers, employees, suppliers or partners by telling them something about your business in a video? Do you want to communicate your message in languages other than those spoken in the video? Or maybe you just want to complement the soundtrack by adding captions in the same language? Excellent! Exacta can help you with translation and subtitling into many different languages. We make sure the text always hits the mark by keeping the wording short and to the point.
Subtitling falls somewhere between oral interpretation and written translation, and many factors need to be taken into account for a good result. Exacta’s subtitlers are all well established, with solid expertise in the craft of optimising space, content and timings without losing the essence of the spoken words.
We take care of the time-coding and all the other technology
To ensure that the subtitles work properly – you don’t, for example, want a subtitle to come up before the words have been spoken on the screen – the texts are divided up into different blocks. The optimum is to have no more than two lines of text and to use a maximum of 37 characters. To ensure that the text is presented correctly, we time-code the blocks so they are displayed for the perfect length of time. Once it is all done, we save the subtitles in your choice of format, so you can import them into your video editing software.
Since a subtitling file can’t be opened directly as a word processing file, we’ll send you a file in Word so you can see what the text blocks look like and how they are presented in the video. You can then easily make comments about things you want to change. Once we’ve implemented your changes, you’ll receive an updated version of the final subtitling file.
Free consultation on your project
Before we get your project started, we’ll go through the background, look at the available material (video and any written script) and discuss the method of delivery. This consultation as part of the quotation process is always free of charge.
