If you have a recording of a speech, important meeting or other similar event captured as a video or audio file and need it transcribed, we can arrange this quickly and efficiently.
The process of converting recorded speech to text is called transcribing or transcription. While there is software available today that can do this task for you, the results are far from perfect. If people speak unclearly, do not articulate well or speak at the same time, errors will occur that only a human can correct. There may also be confidentiality concerns with using an automated service. This means that transcribing a text can take a long time despite the use of assistive technology.
The time needed to transcribe speech to text depends on a number of factors, such as how quickly and clearly the people speak, whether they are talking at the same time, whether there is background noise, the quality of the audio recording, how accurate the transcription needs to be, etc. We usually expect it to take six to eight times the length of the audio recording – so a 1-hour audio file can take six to eight hours to transcribe. Please note that we charge for the number of hours it takes to transcribe your file, not the length of the audio file.
When you contact us about a transcription project, we need to know how detailed the transcription needs to be to suit your needs. Do we need to reproduce the speech verbatim, including interruptions or repetitions, hesitations, laughter, mumbling, tone of voice and emphasised words, or would you prefer a well-written text that is easy to read? Your choice will depend on the purpose of the transcription and what you will use it for next.
Sometimes it is important to reproduce everything accurately, while other times it may be more important that the text is easy to read, which may mean, for example, that we remove extraneous words, repetitions and incomplete sentences that do not add anything to your objective.
We can transcribe audio files in all the major languages used in business. The transcription is performed by native-language transcribers and can also be translated into another language.
If you need to translate your transcribed audio material into another language, we can help you with that.
We transcribe audio recordings from in-depth interviews, group interviews, focus groups, hearings, conferences and seminars, etc. It goes without saying that all files are treated with strict confidentiality.
